After all these years of maintaining my blog on the Blogger platform, i just made a wise decision and migrated this entire blog over to the Wordpress.org platform, and i made sure to use my own domain name

I strongly believe Wordpress.org offers so much more in the shape of themes and plugins, and it's totally free ..

Intending on keeping this old Blogger blog, i might not maintain and update it for a while ...

If only for the sake of good old nostalgia, i'll keep all the old post on here as well but the entire blog might serve some other purpose or project in the future ...

Betty Donelly got a new nose! .. it didn't hurt!

hello!

As we speak, i am sitting here behind the puter screen typing not too fast and trying to sit perfectly still while at it ...

A sort of a plaster thingie is attached to me nose and i wear some kinda moustache in the form of a bandage taped just underneath my nostrils ...

This is to prevent the clotted blood slime from endlessly flowing onto the keyboard ..

My eyes are red and blue and my whole face is swollen ... it's quite a sight ...

Just yesterday i underwent plastic surgery to feminise my nose .. a bit before 7 AM on Monday 28 March 2011 i walked into the surgery day center and soon after i heard someone call my name ...

I looked up in full anticipation and saw a lady in green gesturing me to follow her ... i asked her if arrangements were made to stay the night in another department of the hospital and apparently not!!

But she managed to get me a room for the night and the following morning ... this was due to the fact that when i visited the anaesthesia dept. some time ago to establish if i was fit to be put to sleep, as it were, i had to sign a form telling me i wasn't allowed to go home by myself the same day nor could i stay alone for the next 24 hours after surgery .. since i could not find anyone to babysit me i simply had to stay in the hospital for like two days ..

The green lady told me nicely where i could change into the silly surgical dress with them lil flowers on it i believe ... and pointed at a locker and said: "don't forget to lock the door and bring the key with you!"

i had been told to go into room 4 after i'd changed and that was exactly what i did! ... Once there the pre-surgical procedures began ... i was given a xanax and my blood pressure and weight was taken and then i was put onto a intravenous thing you know ... with the liquids, electrolytes and stuff slowly dripping into my veins via a long thin tube hanging from some kind of a stand ...

Well, by that time .. i suppose it was past 8 AM already ... the professor himself walked into room 4 and reassured me that everything would go smoothly and that he wouldn't cut off too much of my nose! ... Just like we agreed on previous appointments ... i remember he was accompanied by a young sweet looking assistant ... i felt in good hands ..

Next, they rolled my bed, well if you can call that a bed ... right into the O.R.

What a sight .. a whole team of anaestetics was already present to put Betty to sleep ...

The leader of the pack was certainly telling me some white lies when he said the mask this lady was putting over me contained oxygen! ... i betcha it was pure sleeping gas!! ..

But nevertheless they put some liquid tranquilisers directly into my veins via the long thin tube i was attached to ..

But oxygen in that mask ... come on! .. hehe ...

he asked me if i started to feel drowsy and at first i must say i didn't feel a thing ... but then .. oh boy .. oh yeah .. i felt it coming on strong and it lasted a whole minute or so ...

Next thing i know ... i was in the recovery or wakie wakie room ... i heard someone say: "you're awake now ... !" ... and oh boy yes ... i was wide awake all of a sudden!

the main guy from the sleep team had to 'sign me off' so i could be taken to a real hospital dept where i would spend the night ... well it took quiet some time because when i looked at the clock when i woke up it was elevenish AM ... and by the time i was moved into my room it was three!

And blood from my nose kept dripping into my right eye ...! So the nurse gave me some droplets out of a lil bottle and poured it right into my eye! .. ouch ..

my nose was stuffed with threads (cotton i think or so), anyways, it was surely giving me cottonmouth to begin with ..!

and the moustache (the small bandage taped right under my nostrils) kept me from spilling the place with blood ...

and it still does as i am writing this up ...

The rest of the day i remember in particular that i hadn't eaten in like two days ( i had to remain completely sober from 24 hours on before the operation ..)

So i was very pleased to see the food arrive and once it did oh yes ... did i enjoy that meal! ... as if it were my last! .. hehe

Then, at 9 PM sharp ... the professor himself (again) ... paid me a visit and he explained that the operation went well and that i would be pleased with the result .. he also told me that he'd come by the next day and that the threads would be pulled out of me nose .. i believe that was the best news i had heard all day! ...

So the following day ... that nice sweet looking assistant doctor came in and pulled the things out of me nose! ... Brrr ... that felt really funny! ... and gross too! ...

I was then officially dismissed from the hospital but had to wait several more hours till someone would come and pick me up! ...

and all the time i was bleeding .. just one thought ran and runs through my mind even as i write this down ... Stop the bleeding! ... Stop the bleeding! ..

But now i am sure the bleeding will go on for days on end ! ..

i have been prescribed numerous meds to help my nose from becoming one crusty mess .. some antibiotics and even cortisone to stop my face from being swollen ...

Next week i see the professor again, ... so i can thank him for the painless and neat nose job he's performed ... i'll give him one of me Betty Donelly postcards! ...

What is it all about and why did Betty silently disappear for so long in the backdrop?

Well, to be frank, i was quite disappointed and thrown aback after i had released my first real debut album Nightmares of Love. Its physical CD version, available in

It's been months now since the release of Nightmares of Love and it all that time i had one person purchase the download version of my album!

So it shouldn't come as a surprise that after all my promotional efforts not only with the intent of merely selling the album, but also just trying to spread my music and get it out there, that i became increasingly disappointed as it seemed that all my efforts were in vain!

This became obvious and was reflected in my score and charts positions that strongly went downhill.

I just can't put my finger on what is going wrong here.

Is it that people are still afraid of buying stuff online? ... or is the economic downterm affecting people's purchasing habits to such an extent that even the purchase of a single MP3 song just becomes too much? ... i don't know!

I think i did everything according to THE BOOK and information of trusted sources that taught me how to proceed, because after all, i am not such a good salesperson after all so it seems.

But that got me thinking, after all i perform every activity with regard to my small music operation myself, from the music creation process to promoting and every other aspect involved, all with no advertising budgets and mostly using free resources, with that exception that i just pay for my domain names and webhosting.

So, while i slowly was alienated from my own small music operation, suddenly in November 2010, i came up with a suitable name for being what i am, i.e. a one musician band.

After i had come up with this term, i searched for it in google and found no matching results. I was onto something here! .. So i can proudly say that i coined the term 'one musician band' and that it should not be confused with a one-man-band, a term used to describe someone who plays different instruments all at the same time.

So now i had identified myself as a one musician band, a songwriter/musician running a music operation on their own, literally meaning run by one person who assumes all responsibilities and performs all and every single activity and needed actions from music creation, recording, mixing and mastering their own music, over self-publishing their music (online), to performing every aspect related to marketing and promoting themselves and their ‘fully operational (online) one musician band music operation’ all on their own.

Having witnessed first hand all the difficulties that come with running such a one musician band operation online, (because i don't have quite the expertise to talk about a one musician band operation run offline, as i don't have the means of transportation to go gigging in the 'real' world), and after having attended a LIVE webinar presented by Mr. Brendon Burchard from Experts Academy, who instantly became my hero, i entered some kind of dreamy visionary state in which i envisoned myself setting up a new project aimed at helping out people such as myself, being one musician bands.

So, i immediately found a suitable name for my new project and secured the domain name and took a hosting plan to go with it.

simple music world was born!

Now, less than a month after its birth, i have decided to write a book, that will hopefully become a must read for all aspiring and actual one musician bands out there.

So, now you know how i turned my feelings of disappointment for not being able to sell my music around in a project to help people in the same situation i find myself in.

Of course, having nothing to show for when it comes to earning decent money from my music puts some restrictions on the contents of my book and project as a whole as i can't just go about telling people how to earn a living from music as i cannot even do so myself!

But i hope nevertheless to become an authority in my field with great content of value in the non profit side of running a one musician band operation.

How to set it up, in a very hands on practical fashion, using the exact websites and music communities that i use.

And take it or leave it ... but having a worldwide all genre chart position of approx. #32,000 (today 18 November 2010) is something not everyone can brag about.

And i've been steadily going downhill coming from #19,000 by not promoting my stuff during a time period of a couple of months.

And when i put my heart and soul into it again i can really soar to higher regions believe me.

Sometimes it's giving me the creeps!

So really i would actually enjoy some true meaningful comments on there, even if you don't agree with my sometimes harsh words about my take on the downfall of our planet in peril.

But if you are somewhat interested in achieving higher performance levels in any of your actions or activities, as a musician, or even as a manager or whatnot, you will be pleasantly surprised by my posts series about The Performance Issue, ... of which i now already posted three rather long posts which carefully analyses The Issue of Performance, which to me is the most important aspect in the life of a one musician band.

Betty Donelly - october 2010 news

hello friends

after my spiritual adventure i guessed i needed some time off away from all musical activities ..

this was also due to the fact that i had just released my debut album 'nightmares of love', available as a physical CD in the Official Betty Donelly Store , and as download in all main well known outlets such as iTunes, eMusic, Spotify and a buncha others which i cannot recall right now ..

oh yes, noteworthy is the fact that i got an invite from Amazon Central to try out their Beta version of their new Amazon Central artists stores thing ...

and also noteworthy ... is another invitation i got from the nice folks over at music downloads retailer Mavaru where i had the opportunity to list my album before the actual store opened up for all artists ... so at the start it was by invitation only and the best thing about Mavaru is that you get to pick your own price for the entire album download as of $1

it had been 5 or 6 years now since 2004, whith the recordings of two songs, my untouchable friend, and the void, which marked the start of Betty Donelly's solo endeavours, that i had been working nearly day and night, at least the first years to get a decent online presence ... and learning stuff about internet marketing and such .. but after all these years, i can hardly say my littlle business is thriving ...

i mean ... i tried all the usual stuff from SEO to social bookmarking, social networking, blogging etc ... but i hardly seem to be getting any results ...

so i think it was july when i cracked and decided to take some months off from all musical activities ...

here's what i ended up doing instead .. at first i thought i'd amuse myself just chatting on this international chatsite which clearly stated it was a website for individuals as well as businesses ..

so even though i considered myself on a break ... i got this clever idea .. i have this medium sized banner of myself whith my logo, my slogan, my photo and my website URL ...so i taped the banner to this big cardboard box i just happened to have lying round from buying a digital drum set ... (more on this later) .. i also registered a permanent room which i would consider to be my business room .. ! .. lol ...

well i placed the banner box right behind me and let the webcam do its work even when i was asleep so the banner with my URL would be always visble ... well .. it lasted some two weeks when i got a message from a site operator urging me to do away with the banner because my website URL was pointing to a commercial store! .. oh man ... now i had been looking at my stats (my Revebrnation stats and in particular the charts positions as well as my official website hits and while it lasted i had some incredible results ..) .. my RN worldwide all genre chart positions went from some 30,000 to around 19,000 ... i had stumbled upon the very best method of getting traffic in quite some time ... without doing much and even while i was asleep ...

i still can't understand why the chat website admins and owners say their website is for business while you can't even point your cam on a piece of vinyl mentioning your website ...

so that triggered me, after like two months of my musical break ... to start working on my music again ....

at first i started playing 10 minutes here and there, quickly being discouraged by my deteriorated musical skills .. my singing and playing has seriously suffered from doing nothing during two months or so ...

but i managed to release two physical CD singles ... to the dance (a four track single) and a two track ultrarare single edition of the void/my untouchable friend .. both are real physical CD's and they are only available in the Official Betty Donelly Store in the stores section of www.bettydonelly.pro

currently i am starting to feel comfortable playing music again and as i told you i've purchased a digital drum set (you know it looks like real drums only they are rubber pads but although it can be programmed i opted for some gear that can be played with real wooden drum sticks because i know nothing about MIDI .. MIDI is like that programmable music and beats which takes eons to learn if you're very puter savvy and all lol ... i must say i took the conscious decision years ago never to get involved in MIDI and programmable stuff related to music ... it's just not my cuppa tea ! ...

so i will start by re-releasing some songs but with drum parts and i have already been working on the drums of my untouchable friend ... which is a simple pop song ... and as it happens it's my first ever Betty Donelly solo release (2004) ...

it sure has been an awful long time that i posted something on my blog ...

the reason for this may be that i vowed last year to take more actions in the offline world and not so much bother about my chart ranks!

it was surely a big shame that while i neglected my online activities more and more, i got less and less messages and comments from friends ... i should and really will reconnect with those fine people out there ... especially on http://www.myspace.com/bettydonelly where i have most friends ...

in the offline world my connection skills are still poor and weak and as i work always from home and at the cultural center where i dance i don't have much time or energy left to go out there at night and into the world !

so i still find myself alone and most disturbingly, without band ...

my gender situation must play an important role in that i don't attract musicians maybe because they are afraid to be connected with someone who stands out of normality as much as i do ...

oh yes , last saturday we did a great dance performance in the context of a festival, ... our show was great, i had to open the dance, dancing to my own recorded music ... there were two other dancers, including my choreographer who had taken on the role as dancer ..

the two other songs where mine as well and i got to play them live, which was good!

i must say i had magic moments with Myriam, until she started using her cell phone and something broke inside of me and we drifted away from each other the rest of the night ...

her contract is over now ...but maybe she will return in some months from now, to start dancing with us..

i was heart broken when i got home and had loud crying spells which continued the following day ..

i know the reason i cried is that that magic between Myriam and i was gone in that moment but the fact i had started taking hormone gel and anti-testosterone pills has a big influence on my crying like a child but not only that ...

sometimes i just get such uncontrollable laughter kicks that you would think i'd gone mad or so hehe ...!

yes i have only started taking the mones at the beginning of the month of march, but there's already a big difference ...like my pants that i feel are already starting to get difficulties wrapping them around my butt!

well ... that's it for now !

i was letting myself go a bit on the worldwide interweb but i am slowly entering the zone again ...

dancing into the night (and day)

hello dear reader

during a week long period from thursday october the 1st until (yes ..my birthday!).. wednesday 7th we performed six times with our dance group ...

i will have pictures of it later and a film i think as well ..

but here's the story ...

in march 2008 i was approached by Jeroen, our choreographer and i was the only person in the project then for quite a while ...

of course, since i had no formal background in dancing he started giving me workshops to learn the basics of contemporary dance

soon he was learning me some choreography for the piece but then i convinced him to start working with me improvising on totally different music genres as the music that was meant for the performances ...

so, i would improvise like 20 minutes or so on industrial music or new age or even some more mainstream oriented music while he would take notes of the good bits so i am very pleased to see that a lot of what i did on my own was integrated into the dance performances ...

later he asked me if he could use some songs of mine and if i could play them live during the performances ... and so i did!

so the whole week was very hectic with six performances .. on saturday Jeroen even had to come pick me up because i was having a video shot for one of my songs, and do the dance ...

that was a very exhausting and stressful day because we were all in a hurry the whole day long ... worst of all, i forgot the dance costume vest at the video studio and when the vest finally arrived (it was sent over by taxi)i just put it on on time to open the show! ..

it was a fantastic week, and i learned that dancing (performing) nearly every day is very exhausting but very rewarding!

The dance performnaces came to an end for now .. but we'll surely do more of the same spectacle next year!

who is betty donelly - the early days

who is betty donelly?



more information can already be found, scattered throughout the worldwide interweb ...

as for my musical schooling, i must say that thanks to my dad, i
started out very early when he send me to music school to study the
violin and music theory at age seven...

apparently i was better with my instrument than i was with the theory,
because after a few years, i was a couple years ahead on the violin,
due to having failed a few times in music theory

that was really no fun anymore, because on the violin i was presented
with materials that hadn't even been covered in my theory class, so i
quit when i was fourteen years old..

a bit later i got hold of an old spanish guitar, and learned slowly at
first, by playing along with music mainly from the band the cure, who's
music eventually shaped my life, my soul and my beliefs and way of
thinking

at seventeen, having stripped our high school band from their guitar
player, we formed our first band, which i got the honour to name..the
name choice was a no brainer for me, i called the band the fear...

i used the 'the', because i wanted us to be included in the long
traditional hall of fame list of bands that start their band name by
'the', including the beatles, the rolling stones, the byrds, the cure
and such

i used 'the fear', because that was my main emotion at that time...i
was in particular very aware of the feeling i was born in the wrong
era, the feeling of being born a couple hundred years too early...i was
constantly feeling alienated from this current primitive society...a
humanity still in it's puberty, with all its testosterone induced wars,
power games, cold wars and groce injustice...

the music of the fear, in which i played the bass, was obviously very
dark and somber, painting an image of a depressed state of mind, and
love sorrows mainly...there is one song of the fear online over HERE , a tune called one last time, one of our early gemstones

after a fight with the guitar player/singer, the three piece
(guitar/vocals, drums, bass), disintegrated and shortly after i was
able to form another band called the elephants, a band name i had once
again chosen myself, and which reflected my already deep rooted
concerns about the earth's environmental decay...in particular, listen to
the song 'deep' on the same page as mentioned just above..

the elephants existed for four or five years maybe, with a kickstart in
the end of the eighties, until the band once more disintegrated back in
1993

the musicforte page could be considered a tribute to my early years as
a band member, and still holds deer and fond memories in my heart...it
was a great period after all...we managed to gig regularly and created
a regional buzz and following, ending up playing gigs in venues that
supported 500-800 people, playing local festivals and youth clubs...

after a long period of just working to earn my daily bread, i managed
to record two songs on my computer in 2004, all by myself...my first
solo songs...

betty has just released a new home recording called 'the storm will never pass'

the song is not new though (2005)...but the recording is..

the song means a lot to me...i played this song in 2006 at the funeral of two of my friends who committed suicide by jumping in front of a passing train hand in hand...i just replaced the words 'me' and 'i' to 'you'.

on this page, a remake of 'in the begin' can be found as well...i think it's better than the reverbnation version, in which the solo guitar had a lot of mistakes...so i will replace the reverbnation version with the remake recording as soon as i am able...i'm not a solo guitar player, but being a solo artist forces me to take up that task...i try my hardest and i sure need to practice a lot if i want to get into the studio...

i have plans in that direction...i found a studio for 15 €/hour..which is dead cheap..

i want to demo three songs..my best songs..but i'm still unsure as to which ones i should choose...

betty donelly conquers nr 1,2 and 3 spots in ionsonic charts

i discoverd this website a couple days ago and started to upload my music and videos immediate after setting up my profile at ionsonic

in no time i was in the charts aswell as the top 5 for today...currently my songs fill up number one two and three positions...and i am regularly featured on the 'artist spotlight' section aswell as in the 'featured artists' section...

betty donelly's first show was a success

on 25 april 2008, betty donelly did her first show of the free mini tour 2008...

it was a huge success...she only had 15 minutes to prove herself but that's exactly what she did!..

she played three songs, two of which never released before, PORCELAIN BABY and IN THE BEGIN...

the other song was EPYPHITES which went down well aswell..

today, 27 april...in a few hours betty donelly will perform her full set in a bar in Kortenberg, BE...

although she was struck by food poisoning from eating bad calamares and an oversized pizza, she's better now.."i hope everything goes smooth, i've put on my make up, all my gear is packed and i'm ready to go!"

hello

it's been a while since my last post but i had some computer trouble..someone ..a close friend of mine..sent me a nasty computer virus through msn and it took me a few weeks to solve the problem..

it's ok now...my computer is virus free again ..

i've been working on the betty donelly podcasts page and assembled and submitted my very first podcast.. check it out..it's nothing new..it's just the three songs i entered into the international songwriting competition without interruption..and i also changed the order of the songs..

anyway...in one of my previous posts i mentioned i would get together with stefania (bass guitar) and that i'd be demoing a song with a production company..but the two deals never saw the sunlight so i deleted those posts.

but as it happens my new years' resolution..the only one i made for 2008 is really coming to shape...a mini tour that will kick off on 25 april in an intimate secret setting for a selected audience...that same day i will perform twice...once on my own and the other show will be as bassist and drummer of the rolling dice...they are a cover band and we will perform songs by the beatles, the doors, the rolling stones, lionel richie and others...i will take on the drums on three songs...it'll be a real challenge playing drums ...it's been a while :o)...but then again i already performed on drums with the rolling dice in january 2008, so i'm quite hopefull..

some concert dates are already fixed: 25 april (secret gig), 27 april in Kortenberg,BE...15 may (that's a maybe since i have to go through an audition for that one) in Kortenberg,BE and 28/29 june in Brussels,BE

over the past weekend i really was in a creative mood and had a writing frenzy going on

i must have written material for at least 5 to six new songs
